SILK LAPSE
My theme was to question whether the textile has been called a sustainable fiber both on the tag and in people’s minds. I will specifically focus on silk fiber. The truth behind the silk fabric industry today is a scandal. I want to question this issue and showcase my designed garment in a creative way.

Research:
The waste resource in the fast fashion chain is a question that everyday knows was a damage to the whole planet. On the other side of the Fast fashion, silk was one of the fibers that was used in the slow fashion, it is an animal fiber that the majority of people think it’s sustainable. Yes, the silk fiber is sustainable, but in the Industrialization world, the production of the silk fabric appears to have a larger environmental impact when compared to other natural fibers. The silk production takes a lot of energy and water. Silkworms damage the silk thread exiting the cocoon, so in silk production factories, the silkworms only live until they have cocooned themselves in their silken wrapping. Then, they are boiled, which kills the caterpillars and removes the sericin gum, and the silk filament is recovered intact.
Microsilk is protein-based and therefore has the potential to biodegrade, it can be produced with less environmental impact than traditional textile manufacturing, with the potential to biodegrade at the end of its useful life. No spiders are harmed in the making of Microsilk fiber.
